Prisma TL or Prisma II

Note: Both clocks make the same colors

My apologies that neither picture is the standard version of the Prisma TL that most of you order.

The standard Prisma TL has the thick polished acrylic face and rectangular hour and minute hands shown on the left, but with the large dual disk second hand shown on the right.

Prisma TL clock by ChronoArt Prisma II clock by ChronoArt
Prisma TL $579 (shown with optional small second hand and the rear filter disk that does not rotate and standard rectangular hands)
Prisma II $519 (shown with the standard, large dual disk second hand & the optional pointed hour and minute hands)

The Prisma TL has been designed to come close to the original Prisma from the 1970's, but with the improvement of the large dual disk second hand and LED's for the internal light source (no fluorescent lamps to replace) giving you more and better colors.  Most customers just order this standard version.

Attention:  We have changed what is Standard (8/8/2019) The larger second hand disk is now Standard, and the smaller eccentric disk is Optional.  The reason for this change is customers irritation at the hour and/or minute hands becoming very hard to see for several minutes twice every hour.  It has been a problem even in the originals from the 1970's.  The larger second hand disk's rotation over the hour and minute hands means they are easier to see more of the time.  This also has the advantage of more color activity.  Enjoy!

In the top-left of this picture is the newer, large dual disk, more color active, second hand.   In the bottom right is the small, now optional, (original 1970s) eccentric second hand disk.   Sorry this is so confusing.

The New LED Light source

Now with more colors, better colors, and colors that do not repeat exactly twice/minute like the old versions, plus now even the background color changes. Also, a new brightness adjustment to brighten it up for an office or dim it down for a bedroom. This is accomplished with 20 red, 20 white, 20 blue, and 20 green Superflux LEDs driven by a microprocessor. No more fluorescent lamps to deal with like the original Prisma (not referring here to the cold cathode lamps in our first Prisma II, but the original Prisma from the 1970's). A wonderful improvement on a classic design.

Specials versions: Modifications are available for a flat $19 extra handling charge. Allow three day delay in shipping. A list of all the possible changes are listed in the table above.

Note the different color of the background depending on if you are viewing the clock from the left or the right. The sides are a chrome colored plastic. The sides look better than the picture above; the below picture is better.

This is what the upper corners look like with plastic, chrome-color sides.

In 2001 we introduced the PRISMA II, an updated version of the Prisma changing clock from the 70's. In 2012 we introduced the Prism TL with the thick edge-polished acrylic on the front. We have improved on the original. The lamps are long life LEDs , they slowly lose brightness – down 30% in 15-20 years. No fluorescent lamps to fuss with

What's so special about polarized light color changing? There are continuously changing colors and surprising color 'shifts' when the secondhand disk overlaps the minute & hour hands. There is something else going on! First you intuitively sense - something is wrong with the colors. Then you walk around while watching the clock and surprise --- the colors change depending on your viewing angle! Plus, inside the clock you see a clear secondhand disk changing through a magenta-blue-green-yellow color range, twice/minute as it rotates. It turns out, the color changes have to do with polarized light and a phenomenon called bi-refractance. Vectors of light are being rotated as they pass through each material which is very different from color filtering.

The case is flat black acrylic. The motor is the same big, strong metal gear, long life, as was in the original Prisma.

The best of contemporary design and engineering. Enjoy the Prisma for a lifetime and then pass it down to your descendants.
